: The State of Pennsylvania has threatened to sign a NEW DEATH WARRANT for
: Mumia as early as NEXT month.... as in August 1999! We need EVERYONE to
: start to mobilize their Emergency Response Action Plans immediately!
: The International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal does NOT
: assume anything when it comes to Mumia's life. On July 12, 1999, John Baer
: of the Philadelphia Daily News, in a one-page spread dedicated to state
: executions, wrote that the state of Pennsylvania INTENDS TO SIGN A NEW DEATH
: WARRANT NEXT MONTH. AUGUST 1999. This system ALWAYS tells us what it
: intends to do because it is so arrogant to think that the people will not
: respond and resist. Pam Africa always tells me how everytime this system
: opens its mouth we get more support. Well, the media attacks against Mumia
: have not slowed down since MILLIONS. In fact, they have increased. The
: Daily News has NOT retracted John Baer's statement. So if the threat of a
: NEW WARRANT is a lie, this government has not come forward and said so. Not
: that we trust them to do anything anyway. For those of you who think that
: this government will not sign a new death warrant while Mumia is in the
: federal court system because it would be illegal, we ask that you get them
: to confirm that in writing. Fax, telephone, or email the governor's office
: and get them to put into writing that no new warrant will be signed. It is
: not that we are expecting this government to do the right thing. If it was
: going to do the right thing Mumia would not be on death row.
: The featured section in the Daily News was entitled "Death Penalty
: Perspective." The lead story read... "Rapid-fire Executions?" with a
: question mark--implying that executions are not frequent enough in this
: state. There are two articles on the page. One was entitled "We've had 3
: Since 1995 but Appeals Still Drag On," and features Gary Heidnik (who was
: executed the week before) in the same sentence as Mumia.
: If a NEW DEATH WARRANT is signed NEXT MONTH, Mumia will be put on PHASE II.
: PHASE II is basically out of sight... out of mind. This government wants to
: SILENCE Mumia. They have been unable to do so. This unceasing wave of
: media attacks is its way of gearing toward putting Mumia on PHASE II where
: he will be denied access to his family and friends, and be limited in his
: access to the telephone. Remember, it was via telephone that Mumia was able
: to deliver the commencement speech for Evergreen College. And it was by
: telephone that Mumia did an interview with Bill Anderson of WHAT/WCXJ in
: Philadelphia and Pittsburgh completely denying ever having made any type of
: acknowledgement as to the killing of Officer Faulkner as Philip Bloch and
: Vanity Fair Magazine would have everyone believe.
: When Mumia was put on PHASE II, as soon as that warrant was signed he was
: escorted from the legal library, not even allowed to gather his things or to
: return to his cell. He was forcibly put under suicide watch, and had to ask
: for each piece of toilet paper... each glass of water. The International
: Concerned Famiily and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal WILL NOT allow Mumia to go
: through that again! We CANNOT depend on this system to act legally. This
: goverment operates on OUTLAW, which is why Philadelphia Mayor Ed Rendell's
: long-time publicist, Buzz Bissenger, is the author of the Vanity Fair
: article featuring Philip Bloch's claims of Mumia's alleged "confession." Ed
: Rendell must discredit Mumia's case to continue to strive for higher
: office--after all, he was the District Attorney when Mumia was put on death

: There is a real possibility that governor Ridge will sign a new death
: warrant for Mumia soon. The Philadelphia Daily News reported this recently.
: The motivation by the governor and the criminal justice system would be
: to seize the initiative by forcing Mumia's legal team to file for a writ of
: habeas corpus well before the October deadline.
: Such an action might well come in August when schools are out, many
: organizations are not functioning and activists are dispersed.
: Note that Mumia's petition to the U.S. Supreme Court for a writ of
: certiorari does NOT give him any kind of stay. The Supreme Court will grant
: a stay only if they grant the writ, and action on the petition is not
: expected
: until the next court term begins in October.
: The purpose of this memo is to put every progressive organization and
: activist on alert especially during the month of August about this very
: serious
: threat to Mumia’s life, not to mention a threat to the health of the

: Summer 1999 Update
: On April 24th, 1999 tens of thousands of people from all over the world
: demonstrated in Philadelphia to save the life of our brother Mumia Abu-Jamal.
: Strong shows of support like this, as well as the tens of thousands of people
: who rallied and demonstrated in San Francisco, Chicago, Washington DC,
: Mexico, and several European countries make it clear that those corrupt,
: murderous politicians who thirst for Mumia’s blood have got a serious fight
: on their hands! These actions came on top of the Oakland, CA teach-ins, and
: the Rage Against the Machine benefit concert that followed the Pennsylvania
: State Supreme Court’s decision to ignore the truth and deny Mumia a new trial.
: Due to the strength of the April 24th events, this system made weak, impotent
: attempts to offset the momentum of the people. On April 25th, the day after
: Millions For Mumia, the Philadelphia Inquirer launched a smear campaign,
: composed solely of lies, and without any truth whatsoever, to financially
: destroy the Black United Fund of PA (the charity that handles donations for
: Mumia’s legal defense) and against the International Concerned family and
: Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal. That same day, Pamela Jenkins (one of the
: witnesses who came forward to expose police coercion of witnesses in Mumia’s
: original so-call trial) was arrested on an old bench warrant. This is the
: obvious, under-handed, back-door, cowardly type of retaliation that this
: system has always used against people who stand up for what is right!
: Immediately following the Millions for Mumia demonstration, Danielle
: Mitterand, the former first lady of France, and a major figure in the
: international struggle for human rights met with Mumia on death row at SCI
: Greene. Ms. Mitterand also spent an afternoon at MOVE headquarters where she
: was "fascinated" by the strength, health, clarity, and commitment of MOVE
: children, from the babies as well as the teenagers!
: On Monday, April 26th Danielle Mitterand held a press conference at the
: Friends Center in Philadelphia in which she called for an end to the racist
: death penalty, a new trial for Mumia, and an investigation into the release
: of the MOVE 9. She also went on to openly condemn the united states and their
: deadly game of lies, deceit, and murder around the world. Finally, Ms.
: Mitterand met with the lyin conspirator Ed Rendell, and expressed the same
: things to him in person. It is evident that the more people who come in
: contact with the truth that JOHN AFRICA teach, the more the impotent, weak,
: lies of this system crumble and fall! To quote JOHN AFRICA "THE POWER OF
: TRUTH
: IS FINAL!" LONG LIVE JOHN AFRICA!
: Prior to April 24th, the FOP and city officials tried to intimidate and halt
: supporters coming into Philadelphia. They also told key people in the
: International Concerned Family & Friends of Mumia that supporters should not
: wear any Mumia clothing, no uttering of support verbally or physically, and
: that they could not collect funds in support of Mumia. However, during this
: period hundreds of cops on motorcycles traveled from New Jersey across the
: Ben Franklin Bridge to Philadelphia in support of Daniel Faulkner while tying
: up streets, highways, expressways, and raising funds along the way.
: Immediately after this, 2 former MOVE members and long-time, proven traitors,
: Louise James and Laverne Simms, who were exposed through the May 13th
: commission hearings, as well as the 1996 federal suit, as meeting with city
: officials prior to May 13th, 1985 to conspire and plan the murder of Louise
: James’ son Frank Africa and MOVE’s beloved founder JOHN AFRICA, have
: furthered their deranged insanity by stalking and taunting Pam Africa, a MOVE
: member and the chairperson of the International Concerned Family & Friends of
: Mumia Abu-Jamal. Prior to May 13th, 1985, these two traitors demanded the
: city go to 6221 Osage Avenue to assassinate Frank James Africa and JOHN
: AFRICA because Louise and Laverne could not have their way (i.e. running the
: MOVE Organization themselves), and did not want to work in the MOVE
: Organization. They blatantly lied campaigned, and even sought a hit man to
: kill MOVE, knowing there were babies in the house. These two lunatics are
: once again proving their true colors. Once again they are going to the
: system, the system that they believe in, to go against the righteous example

: On July 3rd, a group of Mumia supporters demonstrated for Mumia’s release at
: the so-call liberty bell in Philadelphia. During the July 4th weekend, the
: broken bell is a tourist attraction for people from all over the world. On
: Saturday, July 3rd, thousands of people lined up to see it but they were
: greeted by Mumia’s forces of freedom! The 500-600 demonstrators managed to
: shut down the bell for 4 hours. The cops arrested 95 people who blocked the
: entrances and chained themselves to the roof, and showed this city that there
: ain’t gonna be no business as usual til our brotha is free! ON THE MOVE to
: all those folks who love freedom enough to fight for it!
: On July 4th Bill Clinton came to Philadelphia to present the president of
: South Korea, Kim Dae-Jung, with the so-call Liberty Medal. Dae-Jung is said
: to have been a political prisoner in his country. We know that Clinton, Reno,
: Rendell, Ridge, and Abraham only brought this political puppet here as a show
: of political praise while ignoring political prisoners here in the u.s.,
: denying that political prisoners even exist. But the people didn’t let ‘em
: get away with this! We gonna make this corrupt government acknowledge that
: there are political prisoners right here in this country that are in jail
: unjustly, because they stand up to this system and hold steadfast to their
: position and their innocence. Political prisoners such as the MOVE 9, Mumia
: Abu-Jamal, Leonard Peltier, Sylvia Baraldini, and many more. It is easy for
: Bill Clinton and his political sidekicks to boast of the release of Korean
: political prisoners because it will give him political gain, but to
: acknowledge the MOVE 9, Mumia Abu-Jamal, and others is to admit the
: conspiracy by this corrupt government to further the persecution of innocent
: people. Just like Bill Clinton and his blood thirsty flunkies found out, we
: ain’t gonna allow nobody to sneak into town under this red, white, and blue
: facade of freedom, justice, and equality and get away with lyin to the
: people. Each and every time, they’re gone be exposed, they gone get the
: welcome they deserve, a large dose of revolutionary greeting, louder and more
: powerful than any so call liberty bell could ever ring! He likes quantity,
: volume, and crowds, so we’re gonna continue to give him his wish loud and
: clear, revolutionary style. Clinton shouldn’t have no problem with this
: because the people who he respects, Patrick Henry, Nathan Hale, George
: Washington, etc., claimed to be revolutionaries as well, but we’re gonna make
: true freedom ring loud and clear.
: Just as this foul system did in the aftermath of the Millions for Mumia
: demonstration, another campaign of lies was launched with the intention of
: offsetting the momentum of Mumia’s fight for life on July 9th. Phillip Bloch,
: a teacher who claims to have been volunteering with the Pennsylvania Prison
: Society at Huntingdon State prison where Mumia was at the time, claims that
: Mumia confessed to him that, "he regretted killing Daniel Faulkner." This lie
: is being spread by Vanity Fair magazine, and we know that the FOP, Tom Ridge,
: Lynn Abraham, Ed Rendell, and all their cronies are behind this latest pack
: of contrived, impotent lies. These murderous, blood-starved conspirators
: witnessed the power generated by Mumia’s supporters on July 3rd & 4th, and
: they feel like they need to come back with something, anything to be able to
: discredit this movement for true justice. Mumia has said, and it is common
: sense that someone as versed in the ways of revolution as Mumia, a trained
: former Black Panther, someone who witnessed the revolutionary wisdom of
: JOHN AFRICA first-hand, would never make such a statement to a prison
: volunteer and complete stranger (who was not a friend of his)! This entire
: allegation, just as the allegation of the original phony confession back in
: 1982, and the campaign of Sam Donaldson and the rest of the smear merchants
: at 20/20 is totally, and completely ludicrous! Mumia is innocent! We know it,
: the people know it, the cops know it, the judges, D.A.s, and politicians know
: it, and Phillip Bloch, this lying puppet for the cops know it too!
: At present Mumia has a certiorari petition before the u.s. supreme court that
: may be ruled on as soon as early October. This situation is very urgent! If
: this ruling goes against Mumia, as is definitely possible, then Len Weinglass
: must file a habeas corpus appeal with the supreme court. This filing will
: mark the end of the legal appeals process! As we well know, this system has
: never, and will never do what’s right by the people without being forced to
: do so. Therefore it is necessary that we turn up the heat on this system and
: not allow ourselves or others to be caught in the trap of waiting on the
: system to administer justice! There is no justice in the system, therefore,
: they don’t have no justice to give!
: On July 7th, 1999 the PCRA appeal for the MOVE 9 was filed in Philadelphia.
: 1999 marks 21 years that our innocent sistas and brothas have been unjustly
: imprisoned for an act that it has already been proven that they could not
: have possibly committed. This appeal could result in the release of our
: family, reduced sentences, or this system could do nothing. It is our work,
: our responsibility to let this system know that the people got the truth, and
: that we, the people demand that these gestapo, conspirators in government
: drop their lies and free innocent MOVE members! DEMAND THE RELEASE of Mike
: Africa, Chuck Africa, Janet Africa, Janine Africa, Debbie Africa, Eddie
