Now is the critical time to act to save Mumia's life, as his case enters
its final round in federal court. His ONLY chance to secure any kind of
meaningful review in federal court, given new drastic limitations on
federal courts' powers in death penalty cases, is if we mobilize NOW.
Over the next few short months, the federal court will decide whether it
is even going to hear any evidence in Mumia's case at all-- or whether
it will simply accept Judge Sabo's ruling which threw out all of the new
evidence in the case-- including the witnesses who testified that their
testimony against Mumia had been coerced by the police, and who
testified that they saw another man shoot Officer Faulkner.

The September 25th ad hoc Committee, which includes Black Radical
Congress, Jericho Amnesty Movement, third world Liberation Front, and
other groups, is calling for a strategic planning meeting on SATURDAY,
OCT. 9, AT 9:30 A.M.

Here is their statement-
"The September 25th ad hoc Committee is calling on all organizations and
individuals in the SF Bay Area to join us in this pivotal hour to save
Mumia's life and secure his release. A strategic planning meeting is
being called and the endorsement of your orgnization and its assistance
in organizing and promoting this event is extremely important. For this
strategy meeting, we are asking all participants to come prepared to
give a descriptive analysis of where and how the campaign should proceed
from this point forward.

The aim and objective of the critical strategy meeting is to devise a
coherent set of actions that all of the organizations and forces
currently engaged in campaign or support work for Mumia can collaborate
on. Devising unified actions, not a monolithis line or approach is our
intent; or phrased differently, our intent is to create "unity without
uniformity" as it relates to the liveration of Mumia.

Over the course of the last 11 months the campaign to Free Mumia in the
SF Bay Area has steadily fragmented and undergone a successive number of
re-constitutions ( a development which has had a number of positive and
negative results in our estimation). It is the assessment of the Ad Hoc
Committee that no one organization currently involved in the campaign
has the capacity in and of itself to mobilize all the sectors of society
needed for this campaign to be successful.

Given the present urgency of Mumia's case, all the various social sectors
must be mobilized! This will require a higher level of unity and
organization than presently exists... if we are to succeed. It is only
by working together that we will be able to assemble and exert the
critical mass necessary to save Mumia's life and secure his release."
