Demonstration to Free Fred Hampton Jr and Mumia Abu Jamal
Mon Oct 18th 4:30 pm
Clothespin** 15th and Market** Center City** Philadelphia PA
Sponsored by National People's Democratic Uhuru Movement--215-724-3535
--Demand the immediate and unconditional release of Mumia Abu Jamal and Fred
Hampton Jr
--Stop the execution of Mumia Abu Jamal
--Stop the attacks on the leaders of the black movement
--Stop the mass imprisonment and death penalty of African people
--Reparations to the families of Mumia Abu Jamal and Fred Hampton Jr.
"On the 30th anniversary of the murder of Fred Hampton Sr by the FBI and
Chicago police, Fred Hampton Jr is in prison on a government frame-up. It is
clear that there is no tradition of democracy for African people in this
country. Whenever we struggle for democratic rights we come under attack by
this system. African people must have the right to organize in our own
interest without being imprisoned or murdered.
We must uphold our courageous freedom fighters like Mumia and Fred Hampton
Jr--they belong to the African community ! Free Fred Hampton Jr! Free Mumia
Abu Jamal!"
--Kamau Becktemba President of the Phila chapter of the National
People's Democratic Uhuru Movement

Greetings:
Here's a website with links to most PA media: http://www.pavisnet.com/media/
While on there I came up with the AP story I've attached. It's from some tv
station website.
I would like to propose a cyber-attack on the Philadelphia media for the next
60 days. Fill their chatrooms, e-mailboxes, polls, whatever with your
OUTRAGE! at the signing of Mumia's death sentence. This is the very LEAST we
can do on a daily basis until we fill the streets.
for Mumia, for the Earth,
D.O.

I just found out about an interesting web site that allows you to fax
anyone in the US or Canada for free.
With this tool you could potentially fax dozens of corporations or
legislators in minutes. Just enter in the fax number, your e-mail address
and your message.
You could also cut and paste a prewritten message onto the web site and fax
it, then after the fax is sent hit the "Back" button on your web browser
and change the number to re-fax the same message to someone else. Can you
think of how this could come in handy?
The web site is at:
http://www.free2fax.com/
I hope you find this info useful.

Azanian Youth & Students For Mumia
Dear Friends & Comrades
The reality is that, even if the execution of Mumia Abu-Jamal is carried as
scheduled by the authorities, his ideas and what he stands for shall remain
with us forever.
You can kill the man,but you cannot kill the man 's ideas. In the past, some
people killed Biko, Tiro, Malcom X, Peter Tosh and many other renowned world
activists of Black Consciousness. Now, 25 years after they killed Steve Biko,
they also want to silence Mumia Abu-Jamal by killing him, they want to ban
his ideas.
MUMIA MUST NOT DIE, HE DESERVE TO LIVE
AND SERVE HIS COMMUNITY AND THE WORLD.

Congressional Black Caucus Questions Due Process for Mumia Abu-Jamal
WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Justice can only be served through a new
trial for Mumia Abu-Jamal, concluded Congressmen Chaka Fattah and John
Conyers, speaking on behalf of the entire 38 Member Congressional Black
Caucus (CBC). Congressman Fattah, a Philadelphia Democrat, has been closely
monitoring the Abu-Jamal case for almost two decades and has concluded that
a new trial is necessary in order to carry out Abu-Jamal's constitutional
right to due process. Congressman Conyers, the leading Democrat on the House
Judiciary Committee, agrees.
Even as Governor Tom Ridge (R-PA) signs Mumia Abu-Jamal's death warrant,
there are still many issues that have not been resolved. Abu-Jamal, an
African-American journalist from Philadelphia known for his reporting of
police brutality during the 1970's and 80's, was sentenced to death in 1982,
for the murder of a white police officer. Testimony of eyewitnesses was
suppressed, a witness was bribed to testify against Abu-Jamal, ballistics
evidence did not match the circumstances of the case, there is no physical
evidence linking Abu-Jamal to the crime, and tests which could have been
done to prove his guilt or innocence were not ordered. At the trial,
Abu-Jamal, a powerful orator, was denied the right to represent himself and
even denied the right to confront his accuser. The judge used his insistence
on his right to represent himself as an excuse to remove him from the trial.
No audio transmission of the trial was provided, therefore, Abu-Jamal was
unable to hear most of the prosecution's case.
There are many reasons for the CBC's reservations in the Abu-Jamal case.
Even if he were guilty, there should be a more solid assurance of fact
before he is put to death. If he is innocent, putting him to death on the
basis of the current evidence makes the government guilty of the very thing
for which it is accusing Abu-Jamal.
``The only thing we know for sure is that he has not been given due process
and that alone is enough for a new trial,'' said Congressman Fattah.

Statement on Mumia Abu-Jamal from Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls
The Death Penalty would make hypocrites of us all. Killing to show
killing is wrong. A barbaric, finalizing action imposed by an imperfect
justice system whose racist, sexist and economic bias cannot be ignored.
A punishment whose preventative and financial value have not been
proven.
Can we not rise above our need for lashing out in fear for bloody
revenge. There is no healing, no resolution to be had by the gallows.
Mumia is just one of many whose criminal convictions arise out of unjust
conditions and complex situations. How many of those that would hold the
axe understand the years of racist brutality and economic oppression,
the chaotic war zone in which Mumia and many like him have lived.
The full evidence has not been heard. The Jury should still be out.
The State has no business executing Mumia.
The State has no business killing anyone.
---Amy Ray, Indigo Girls

FAMILY MATTERS
I am deepy saddened to report that I learned at the 10/16 Mumia
rally in Philadelphia that strong Warrior SIS. ELISHEBA
SHABAZZ-ALI of Philly + DC passed away approximately two
weeks ago. This proud Sista was a true SOLDIER OF HER
PEOPLE. Sis. Elisheba is well known for her work on behalf of
the MOVE Organization since at least the 1970's, her work with
ICFFMAJ, the MWM, the Hands Off Assata Campaign, her dynamic
holistic health teaching, teacher and speaker of truth, a proud, reverent
follower of Islam, an unrelenting community activist who opened
her home and her cupboards to revolutionaries and homeless alike.
This is only a brief memorial to a TREMENDOUS woman,
mother, sista and friend. I hope that others with more info on
how Sis. Elisheba touched them and their work will send that
info in so that we can pay her a proper tribute befitting her actions
always rooted in great love for her people. Sis. Elisheba! We
love and miss you dearly. Thank you for your mighty lessons
and your fierce dedication to our liberation struggle.
