Melbourne Organising Meeting
4 November 1999, 6.00 pm @ Comrades Bar

Present: Debbie (Radical Women), Craig (Freedom Socialist Party) , Singh
(Victorian Deaths in Custody Watch Committee), Vivienne, George (LRP),
Donna, Rebecca, Crhis, Stefan, Amanda, Guy (Anarchist Black Rose)

The meeting covered November 13 rally organising matters arising from the
minutes of 27/10/99.

1. Rally:
.* Speakers:
Debbie is still liaising with Indigenous leader, Richard Frankland, and will
get an answer early next week
Alison got answer from her HSUA contact who is also a member of Trade
Unionists for Land Rights: he said he'll be at the rally but is reluctant to
speak
Singh is still organising a speaker from the Victorian Deaths in Custody
Watch Committee
Chris contacted Amnesty International, which hasn't yet gotten back to him
No news from Jess, who was seeking a student union speaker and possibly Judy
McVey from the ISO and CPSU
George will contact the AEU for a speaker
Debbie said that Chilean Popular and Indigenous Network said it will speak

* PA:
Andrew had organised the PA

* MC:
Craig and George will MC

2. Endorsements so far:
Freedom Socialist Party, Socialist Worker, Radical Women, Workers Power,
Democratic Socialist Party, Friends of the Earth, RMIT Student Union,
Chilean Popular and Indigenous Network

3. PR:
*Singh did the cart for 3CR, and it's now being released
Singh has just now succeeded in making contact with Pam Africa and will
probably get an interview with her next week
Amanda will get a copy of the 3CR cart and image of the poster for Channel
31: George to get Andrew to contact her about the poster image

* Poster: the poster is done, and a few were tabled at the meeting
Poster paste-up:
Singh: Reservoir/Preston
Radical Women and Freedom Socialist Party: Coburg/West Brunswick
George: East Brunswick
Stefan: Prahran

George will contact Andrew about getting more posters printed for the
paste-ups. George will then email people.

* Leaflet:
The leaflet is done, but it doesn't include where the rally will be held.
George will contact Andrew about getting a corrected version of the leaflet
photocopied. George will then contact Debbie to get information out on the
email about leaflet pick-up for distribution.

* Educational booklet:
Singh is doing the booklet tomorrow and will distribute to bookshops and
bring to the next meeting.

* Media release:
Freedom Socialist Party and Radical Women will do this.
George will contact Green Left Weekly about including the rally. He'll also
approach AEU for advertising in the union journal.

4. Next meeting:
THURSDAY, 11 NOVEMBER
RMIT (SWANSTON STREET), BUILDING 8, LEVEL 4
