1) DEMONSTRATE FOR AN EVIDENTIARY HEARING & NEW TRIAL
As you probably know, the movement in support of Mumia is trying to
pressure federal Judge Yohn to grant Mumia the evidentiary hearing that he
so badly deserves. The previous appeals in Pennsylvania courts have refused
to look at the wealth of new evidence produced by the defense such as
admissions by witnesses who lied at the original trial under police
pressure. Without an opportunity to enter new evidence into the record, all
future federal appeals on Mumia's part would be judged solely on the basis
of the version of the "evidence" allowed into court by the notorious Judge
Sabo. You will recall that "hanging judge" Sabo, who heard the original
case against Mumia, was also appointed to hear Mumia's state appeal,
including the issue of judicial bias. Sabo ruled of course that the
original judge (himself!) had NOT been biased at all, and refused to admit
into the record new evidence including the testimony of witnesses who had
earlier lied at Mumia's original trial. WITHOUT a new evidentiary hearing,
that perjured testimony will be allowed to stand as evidence against Mumia
in upcoming appeals! If an evidentiary hearing is turned down by Judge
Yohn, the railroading of our brother will be allowed to proceed at full
steam, all cries for justice and reason notwithstanding!
To protest the state's intention to proceed with Mumia's frame-up and
denial of a new trial, visible action is necessary. In the Twin Cities, a
rally will be held at:
Tuesday Nov. 9 at 4:30 P.M.
Federal Building
4th St. at 2nd Ave.
Downtown Minneapolis
Come and bring all your friends, to send a clear message to Judge Yohn,
that we DEMAND a new evidentiary hearing, and a new trial for Mumia! Stop
the execution! We will not rest until Mumia is FREE!
If you live elsewhere, check with your local Mumia support group to see if
there are any actions of this sort in your locality. But in any case, you
should.....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) KEEP THE LETTERS TO YOHN COMING!
The campaign to send letters to pressure Yohn to grant an evidentiary
hearing has taken off in a big way! Our group in the Twin Cities has
received over 400 emails which have been printed and forwarded for Yohn to
consider! But it's not too late to help thicken that stack of letters. You
can simply write an email and send it to:
YOHN<mgresist@minn.net>
Or you can do the whole thing in as little as a minute by using the form
included on the following web page (a default letter is included):
http://www1.minn.net/~meis/yohn.htm
And send that URL around to your email friends -- they can just click on it
and do something to help stop the injustice that faces Mumia!!

3) RAISED VOICES FOR MUMIA: AN EVENING OF ART
This includes performances by EduPoetic, Poetree, Solstice and others TBA.

4) RALLY TO FREE MUMIA! -- SATURDAY DECEMBER 11th
As the wheels of (in-) justice grind on, will the voice of the people be
rendered silent? NO WAY!! On December 11th, in conjunction with similar
national and international actions, the Twin Cities will voice its support
for an evidentiary hearing, a new trial, and FREEDOM for Mumia Abu-Jamal at
an indoor rally:
Saturday December 11, 1:00 P.M.
Cedar-Riverside People's Center,
425 20th Avenue S.,
West Bank, Minneapolis.
March to follow
If you want to help publicize or organize this event, or if you are part of
an organization that might want to endorse this rally, please email a reply
to this message, or leave a message on our hotline at 651.649.4579
If you live outside the Twin Cities, contact your local Mumia support group
to find out about local coordinated actions. Or start your OWN organizing
if necessary, because our voices won't be heard unless we shout it out:

STOP THE EXECUTION OF MUMIA ABU-JAMAL!
DEMONSTRATION:
WHEN: THURSDAY, NOV. 18TH 4:30-6:30 PM
WHERE: FEDERAL DISTRICT COURTHOUSE
LAFAYETTE & WASHINGTON, DETROIT
MUMIA WINS STAY OF EXECUTION!
DEMAND EVIDENTIARY HEARING!
THE STRUGGLE MUST GO ON!
On Tuesday, October 26th, federal appeals Judge William H. Yohn signed a
stay of execution for Mumia Abu-Jamal. On the legal front, the key fight
will be securing an evidentiary hearing from judge Yohn. An evidentiary
hearing would permit Mumia's attorneys to present-for the first
time-evidence demonstrating Mumia's innocence that was banned from
introduction in the state court system. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT PEOPLE
WRITE LETTERS TO YOHN URGING HIM GRANT AN EVIDENTIARY
HEARING. Until we hear further, any letters to judge Yohn should not be sent
directly to him, but to Mumia's lead attorney Leonard Weinglass instead:
Hon. William H. Yohn, Jr.

UK PRESS ON FOP "PROTEST" OF STING
--------------------------------------------
From: "James in Cambridge"
[EVENING CHRONICLE (Newcastle,UK) November 4, 1999 Thursday Edition 1]
HEADLINE: Sting cops it! - US police plan concert demo over star's
support for killer
BYLINE: by Lisa Hutchinson
TYNESIDE rock star Sting is at the centre of a planned protest in
America for supporting a convicted cop killer on death-row. The
Wallsend-born singer has angered police after voicing his views over
the death penalty faced by Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Former radio journalist and Black Panther Abu-Jamal has been on death
row for almost two decades after being found guilty of killing 26-year-old
Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1982.
The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 plans to call on officers to
demonstrate on November 14 when Sting is due to play Philadelphia's
Tower Theatre, said the organisation's president Joseph Fitzgerald.
The lodge, part of America's largest police group, represents at least
900 retired and active Delaware County officers.
Sympathy
The Philadelphia date is part of the former Police singer's tour to
promote his new album, Brand New Day.
Abu-Jamal's supporters have argued that procedural errors, witness
tampering and racial bias tainted the original trial. Last month,
US District Judge William Yohn Jr granted Abu-Jamal a stay
of execution, just 13 days after Governor of Pennsylvania Tom Ridge
signed a second death warrant. Abu-Jamal's death sentence has become
a cause celebre for anti-capital punishment groups around the world.
The Fraternal Order of Police has also targeted other artists as well as
Sting. Its boycott list includes UK group Chumbawamba, REM's Michael
Stipe, David Byrne, Harry Belafonte, Bobby McFerrin and Sting's wife,
actress Trudie Styler. The list is largely culled from signatures in two
letters
published in the New York Times in August, 1995, and October, 1998,
supporting Abu-Jamal. Chester City police officer Ed McClellan said:
"Sting opened his mouth. It will be a quiet demonstration. It is not going to
get out of hand."
But Sting's tour manager, Billy Francis, said today: "Sting has no
involvement in this particular case.
"His views are the same views as Amnesty
International, which he has supported for many years.
"Sting does not believe in the death penalty. He does not believe in the
taking of human life. Period.
"He has great sympathy for the family of the police officer who died in
the line of duty."

FOP ON RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
From: "Officer.Com" <police@officer.com>
***************************************************************
NBC plans to air a performance by the Group Rage Against the Machine on
Veteran's Day, this coming November 11th. This group opens their act by
voicing
support for a vicious cop killer, Mumia Abu-Jamal. We believe that showing
support for this group and their volatile views on a day that is meant to
remember
those who gave their lives for their country is especially disrespectful to
anyone
who has ever worn a uniform.
NBC has booked musicians Rage Against the Machine for Latenight with
Conan O'Brien on Thursday, November 11th, Veteran's Day. This group is
known as a vocal supporter of the cop killer. During a recent appearance on
The David Letterman show, the group opened their act by shouting "Free
Mumia."
Officer.Com has sent word to NBC that allowing the group to repeat this on
NBC would be hurtful to police officers and their families, but NBC has not
shown
enough respect to even acknowledge us.

STOP THE EXECUTION OF BLACK US ACTIVIST MUMIA ABU JAMAL -
DEMO IN EDINBURGH
THURS 11 NOV - MEET 1PM USA CONSULATE, REGENT TERRACE
Mumia has been on death row in Philadelphia USA since 1982, on a
completely fabricated charge of killing a policeman. His trial was a farce.
It disregarded the forensic evidence, and relied on phoney and perjured
testimony from intimidated witnesses.
Mumia had been due to be executed on December 2nd 1999, after the
Pennsylvania Governor, Tom Ridge, signed a new death warrant on 13 October.
A Federal judge has now ordered a stay of execution, but Mumia remains
under threat. Now is the time to redouble our efforts to save Mumia. The
Edinburgh demos are part of international protests, there is also a demo in
London on 6 Nov..

HEADLINE: French Socialist Party supports US death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal
DATELINE: PARIS, Oct 26
France's governing Socialist Party on Tuesday strongly denounced the death sentence against black American Mumia Abu-Jamal and called for supporters to flood the White House with petitions calling for clemency.
"Those in favour of humanity, tolerance and justice should join an international movement that is growing daily by sending US President Bill Clinton a petition asking that Mumia Abu-Jamal's execution be stayed," the party said in a communique.
A former journalist and member of the Black Panthers, Abu-Jamal, 45, was condemned to death in the United States for the 1981 murder of a white policeman.
Earlier this month, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge signed the death warrant and scheduled Abu-Jamals execution for December 2 despite strong public opposition. Ridge is the only official who can stay the execution.
Abu-Jamal has always claimed he is innocent and his supporters say he deserves a new trial because of prosecutor and police misconduct, a biased judge and manipulated evidence.
French President Jacques Chirac indicated last week that he did not plan to raise the issue with Clinton but insisted that every opportunity had been taken to sensitize US officials about concern over the planned execution. ===============================================> Appeal for Mumia
