FREE MUMIA-RALLY IN OSLO
The Support-comitee for Mumia Abu-Jamal in Oslo, Norway, which is based at the
autonomous youth-house Blitz, arranged a FREE MUMIA-demonstration at Dec.
13th. to mark the day of the arrest of Mumia. At the legal part of the demo, a
representative for the Norwegian Journalist Union held a support-speech for
their collegeague sentenced to death, Mumia Abu-Jamal. This is the first time
the Norwegian Journalist Union has taken a open stand in support of Mumia. A
representative from Blitz and also a famous stand-up comedian held solidarity
and political speaches in support of Mumia.
After the legal part of the demonstration, about 250 people went to the US
Embassy for a protest outside the representatives for the repressive American
"justice". For unknown resasons, this move came as a suprise for the police,
even if we allways go to the US. Embassy to protest against the death
sentence of Mumia. The police had some problems stopping the demonstrators
in front of the embassy, but we soon gave up trying to get through to the
embassy,
and instead we "executed" the Electric Chair. Blitz had built a true model of
the barbaric electric chair, and after placing a the Grim Reaper with an
american flag
in his hand, we connected the chair to electricity, and with sparks and
flames,
the electric chair exploded and burnt for more than 20 minutes. The
pyrotechnical team and model builders at Blitz did a great job! The
police did't dare to try to stop the demo, because most likely they remembered
the riots in the streets for Mumia cause that president Clintons visit to
Oslo last
month aroused.
